The DuPage County Sheriff's Office will get a $110,250 electronic warrant system and the county's family violence council will receive $52,000 in state grant funding after the Board's Judicial and Public Safety Committee approved both items Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The warrant system money covers a payment to Cloudgavel, a cloud-based platform now owned by Tyler Technologies. The system lets officers submit, review and receive judicial approval for warrants electronically on any internet-connected device. The company says the process can take under 10 minutes.
It's not new spending. According to the committee's meeting agenda, the Sheriff's Office is moving existing budget dollars from a subscription IT line to a software account to cover the Cloudgavel payment.
Committee member Brian Krajewski had raised the issue of outstanding warrants at both the May 19 and July 7 meetings, requesting data on warrants versus arrests from the Sheriff's Office. The Cloudgavel upgrade follows that scrutiny.
Family violence grant
The committee also accepted a $52,000 grant from the Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council for Program Year 27. The money flows through the 18th Judicial Circuit Court, headquartered at 505 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton.
The local Family Violence Coordinating Council, chaired by Circuit Court Judge Ann Celine Walsh, addresses intimate partner abuse, child abuse, teen dating violence and elder abuse through training, systems coordination and community awareness. In June, the same committee approved a separate contract paying coordinator Diana Hightower up to $43,472 through June 30, 2027, funded by the grant.
Other approvals
The committee chaired by Lucy Evans also greenlit:
- A $47,117 purchase of a 2026 Ford F-150 from Sutton Ford for the State's Attorney's Office cold case unit investigator, covering Aug. 11 through Nov. 30, 2026.
- A resolution authorizing the Sheriff's Office to sell surplus inventory to the Villa Park Police Department.
- A $162,255 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science grant notification for the Sheriff's Office.
All approved items still require final action from the full DuPage County Board.
