West Chicago's girls swimming team won its own Wildcat Championship on Saturday, Sept. 26, topping a seven-team field with 344 points.
Waubonsie Valley finished second with 249 points, followed by Lake Park (228), Plainfield Co-op (172), Wheaton Co-op (138), Glenbard W/S (102) and Glenbard N/E (68), according to Daily Herald scores. The meet began at 11 a.m. at West Chicago.
The Wildcats' 95-point cushion over second-place Waubonsie Valley was a commanding finish to the home invitational. The Wheaton Co-op, which placed fifth with 138 points, gave the area a second team in the top five.
Boys soccer: West Chicago, Wheaton North pick up wins
On the pitch, West Chicago blanked York 3-0 at the Glenbard North Quad, and Wheaton North beat Proviso West 4-1 on the road.
The 3-0 shutout continued a strong start for head coach Dorian Carrasco's squad. In a Sept. 12 season preview published by the Wildcat Chronicle, Carrasco said the team's goals included winning tournaments, capturing the conference title and competing for a state championship.
"We're very optimistic about the season. I think that once we start putting everything together and as the season develops, we're going to be a team that's going to compete very high," Carrasco said in that Sept. 12 interview.
The shutout of York was West Chicago's second game in two days. The Wildcats fell to Glenbard North 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 25.
Wheaton North's four goals against Proviso West gave the Falcons a comfortable road win in a 10 a.m. kickoff.
Flag football: WWS beats Glenbard East 42-6
Wheaton Warrenville South beat Glenbard East 42-6 in girls flag football. The 36-point win was the Tigers' most decisive result of the Saturday slate.

Area teams return to action Monday, Sept. 28. Wheaton North visits Wheaton Warrenville South in girls flag football at 6:30 p.m., while West Chicago travels to Elmwood Park for flag football at 6:30 p.m. Wheaton Warrenville South also plays at Prospect in girls volleyball at 6 p.m. Wheaton North heads to Benet for girls tennis at 4:30 p.m.
