Loyola Medicine plans to build a three-story outpatient care center in Warrenville that would bring more than 30 medical specialties under one roof.
The health system announced the project the week of Oct. 26, calling the $120 million investment by parent company Trinity Health one of the largest outpatient investments in Loyola Medicine's history, according to Shaw Local. The facility would sit at 28301 Ferry Road, south of the intersection of Ferry Road and Torch Parkway.
At roughly 100,000 square feet, the center would include 60 exam rooms, an ambulatory surgery center, advanced imaging services and a retail pharmacy, according to a Loyola Medicine news release. Imaging would include MRI, CT, mammography, X-ray and ultrasound. The facility is expected to handle about 100,000 patient visits a year.
Planned specialties range from adult and pediatric primary care to cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, bariatric surgery and transplant nephrology, among others.
"Healthcare continues to move closer to where people live and work, and this investment positions Loyola Medicine to meet that demand for decades to come," Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Trinity Health's Illinois/Indiana Region, said in the release.
The Warrenville center is part of a broader Loyola building push. The Chicago Tribune reported that Loyola plans two new buildings totaling $426 million, including a $306 million administrative building on its main Maywood campus. Trinity Health would fund construction of both facilities, according to the Tribune.
Loyola already has many patients in the Warrenville area who travel to other system locations for care, according to the system's application to the state Health Facilities and Services Review Board, as the Tribune reported. Expanding outpatient services would also free hospital space for the sickest patients, Vincent said. Loyola now has more than 160 intensive care unit beds across its system, and they are largely full every day, Vincent told the Tribune.
The project still needs state and local sign-off. A city of Warrenville notice posted in October said the state review board was reviewing Loyola's application. That notice listed the project cost at about $106.8 million, lower than the $120 million figure Loyola cited publicly. The Warrenville Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals had a continued public hearing on the project's zoning requests scheduled for Oct. 22, according to the meeting agenda. The outcome of that hearing was not available at publication.
Pending approvals, groundbreaking is expected in early 2027, with the facility projected to open in 2029.
