Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton placed third in a national contest ranking the 20 most beautiful hospitals in the United States.
Healthcare staffing firm Soliant Health announced the results of its 14th annual Most Beautiful Hospitals contest on Oct. 23. Marianjoy earned 11,474 votes in the public poll, landing behind only La Rabida Children's Hospital in Chicago and Jasper Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Georgia.
It was Marianjoy's highest finish ever. The Wheaton rehabilitation hospital has appeared on the list nine times since first making it in 2009, according to Soliant.
The contest asked patients, healthcare workers and community members across the country to nominate hospitals and then vote for their favorites. Participants could vote multiple times. The contest drew 164,184 total votes across 57 hospitals that advanced to the public ballot, the Record reported.
Soliant highlighted Marianjoy's wooded 60-acre campus and its multi-tiered sunken courtyard anchored by a stone walking labyrinth. The firm described curved glass walls and warm brick wings surrounding the courtyard, a space that allows natural light to reach lower-level therapy areas.
"Every hospital on this year's list shows that a healing environment is shaped by both the space itself and the people who bring it to life," Emily Miller, president of healthcare at Soliant, said in a press release. "These hospitals have created places where patients and families can feel welcomed, supported, and cared for."
La Rabida Children's Hospital took the top spot and will receive a $5,000 donation to its foundation from Soliant. The contest has recognized more than 200 hospitals since it launched in 2009, according to the firm.
Marianjoy, part of the Northwestern Medicine health system, was the only hospital in the western suburbs to make the 2026 list. The full top 20 spans facilities in 14 states.
