Road crews started tearing out and replacing curbs and sidewalk ramps on two Wheaton streets near Memorial Park on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The work covers Gary Avenue between Wesley Street and Harrison Avenue and West Street between Wesley Street and Harrison Avenue, according to a city notice. Both stretches sit within blocks of Longfellow Elementary School at 311 W. Seminary Ave.
Detours may be in effect for a few hours at a time over several weeks, the city said. Detour signs will be posted. Access to Longfellow Elementary will be maintained throughout the project, though temporary detours may take effect near the school, Patch reported.
The project is listed on Wheaton's 2026 Road Construction and Maintenance Projects page as spot curb and ADA sidewalk corner replacement.
