DuPage County will spend nearly $491,000 to replace aging LED traffic signal heads at intersections across the county after the Transportation Committee approved the contract Tuesday, Aug. 4.
H&H Electric Company won the job as the lowest responsible bidder, according to county meeting records. The $490,887.81 contract covers signal head replacements at "various locations within DuPage County" under Section 26-00000-06-GM, though the county has not published a list of specific intersections.
The committee also approved a separate agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation to coordinate design, operation and maintenance of an Advanced Traffic Management System. No cost to the county.
Transit services in focus
Beyond road hardware, the committee heard a presentation from County Engineer Bill Eidson's division, DuDOT, on demand-responsive transit services and received an update memo on the Hinsdale Lake Terrace Community Rideshare Access Program.
That rideshare pilot, a partnership between DuPage County and Pace Suburban Bus using Uber and Uzurv, launched in November 2024. Transportation Committee Chair Mary FitzGerald Ozog said in a Nov. 12, 2024, county press release announcing the program that it was designed to fill gaps in transit access for the roughly 5,000 residents of the Hinsdale Lake Terrace neighborhood in southeast DuPage County.
The program now offers enrolled residents up to 60 subsidized rides per month, with the county covering up to $20 per ride anywhere in the six-county RTA service area. New enrollment was suspended June 29 while the county updates its verification process; existing participants can still use the service.
Separately, DuDOT and the Regional Transportation Authority are conducting a Demand Responsive Study survey on services like Lyft, Uber and Ride DuPage. The survey is open through Aug. 17 at LinkUpDuPage.org, with two $100 Visa gift cards available as incentives.
Other committee business
The committee approved several maintenance and supply contracts at the same meeting: up to $200,000 for carbide plow blades from Bonnell Inc., up to $80,000 for Monroe plow parts from Monroe Truck Equipment Inc., up to $25,000 for Freightliner parts from Patson Inc., and up to $15,000 for uniform rentals from Cintas Corporation. It also closed out a contract with Imperial Lubes & Supply and corrected a project section number on a Milton Township storm sewer materials contract with Ferguson Waterworks.
