Democrat Paula McGowen captured about 61% of the vote to unseat Republican Grant Eckhoff in the DuPage County Board's 4th District race on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Eckhoff, a Wheaton resident and attorney, garnered about 39%, according to unofficial results reported by Shaw Local. The four-year seat covers a district that includes all or parts of Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Glendale Heights.
The loss ends a long run for Eckhoff. He was one of three veteran Republican board members defeated Nov. 3. The three had a combined 66 years of service on the county board.
McGowen, a Glen Ellyn resident of more than 35 years, is a Milton Township trustee and community organizer who frequently attends DuPage County Board meetings, according to Shaw Local. During her campaign, she advocated for seniors and questioned the need for large capital projects.
As we reported Nov. 5, Democrats will hold a 17-1 advantage on the county board once the winners are sworn in later this year. McGowen's victory in District 4 gives Wheaton-area residents a representative who campaigned on advocating for seniors and questioning large capital projects.
