Warrenville residents who want to weigh in on backyard donkeys will get their chance Thursday, Aug. 6, when the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals holds two public hearings at City Hall. The board will also discuss fuel tanks.
The board's agenda, posted Thursday, July 30, carries two new-business items. Both are public hearings, meaning residents can speak, send a representative, or submit written comments.
Donkeys on residential lots
The second hearing is a city-initiated zoning text amendment that would allow donkeys on certain residential properties. The proposed change to Section 10.A.2.B of the Warrenville Zoning Ordinance would extend existing regulations for keeping horses to cover donkeys as well.
That legal notice was also signed by Emery and published in the Daily Herald on July 22.
Fuel tanks on Talbot Avenue
Calvin Hoving, owner of C. Hoving Recycling and Disposal Inc., is seeking a special use permit for two double-lined concrete above-ground fuel storage tanks at 3S080 Talbot Ave., Unit 4. The property is zoned M-2 General Manufacturing and owned by 3S080 Talbot LLC.
The tanks are already on-site. The legal notice describes the request as approval for "existing bulk fuel tanks," meaning the permit would formalize their presence under the city's zoning code. Hoving runs a dumpster rental and waste disposal operation at the same address; the company describes itself as a fourth-generation family business with roots dating to 1913.
The notice, signed by Community and Economic Development Director Amy Emery, was published in the Daily Herald on Wednesday, July 22. The full permit application is available for inspection at the Community Development Department, 3S258 Manning Ave., or on the city's website.
