A 21-year-old Wheaton man already facing DUI charges from a September arrest in Wheaton was charged again after crashing into a semi-truck in Oswego on Friday, Oct. 16.
Oswego police said the man was driving a Toyota RAV4 west on Wiesbrook Drive at about 12:25 p.m. when he attempted to navigate a curve and struck the driver's side of a semi-truck in the 2000 block, Kendall County Now first reported. Both drivers were evaluated and treated by paramedics at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Oswego Police Department.
The man was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless driving following an investigation into the crash, Oswego police said. He was also cited for illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The Kendall County Now report, written by Eric Schelkopf, identified the man as Alifov K. Yazdan. A Wheaton Police Department weekly arrest report for the week of Sept. 21 through Sept. 27 lists the same individual with the last name Alifov and first name Yazdan. The two sources disagree on the name order, and no court filing was available to confirm which rendering is correct.
September arrest in Wheaton
The Wheaton arrest report shows the man was taken into custody at 12:03 a.m. Sept. 27 at the intersection of Butterfield and Naperville roads. He was charged with DUI, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver, speeding 35 mph or more over the limit, reckless driving and transportation of open alcohol by a driver.
He was released on a notice to appear, the Wheaton report shows. The Oct. 16 crash in Oswego came less than three weeks later.
The charges in both incidents are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, as noted in the Wheaton Police Department's arrest report.
No information on formal charges filed in either DuPage or Kendall County courts, or any scheduled court dates, was available as of Oct. 23.
