Warrenville residents will get a chance to weigh in on the future of the Route 59 corridor at an in-person planning session Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Andrew Johnson and Community Development Department staff will lead a visual preference survey followed by small-group discussions on building architecture, landscaping, uses and streetscape, according to the city's event notice. The session takes place at Courtyard Banquets, 3S200 Route 59.
The event is part of Forward 59, a year-long planning effort to create a corridor plan for one of Warrenville's busiest commercial stretches. The city hired consultant Vandewalle & Associates to develop the plan, which will update proposed land uses along the corridor based on current and anticipated market conditions, according to the city's project page.
The finished plan will also establish streetscape, signage and building design guidelines aimed at creating a consistent look along the corridor. It will include marketing packages for up to four key development sites, including city-owned properties.
Beyond appearance, the plan will address infrastructure improvements for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The final document is set to include a land use plan, cross-section designs, signage regulations and an implementation framework with funding resources.
The planning process launched in July 2026. On Sept. 3, the Forward 59 Project Workgroup and city staff toured five sites along the corridor to assess existing conditions, opportunities and challenges.
The Oct. 28 session is separate from an online community input survey and interactive mapping tool also accepting responses. The survey collects feedback on existing conditions and opportunities along Route 59, while the mapping tool lets residents pin ideas to specific locations along the corridor. Both close Nov. 6, according to a city notice.
Residents who want to stay informed can contact Community Planner Jack Maszka at [email protected] to join the project's email distribution list.
The city anticipates public review and comment on the draft corridor plan in summer 2027.
