Wheaton's Planning and Zoning Board will meet Wednesday, Sept. 9 instead of its originally scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 1, a shift that delays the next available hearing date for residents tracking two contested land-use cases.

City Clerk Andrea Rosedale posted the rescheduling notice Monday, Aug. 3. No reason for the change was given.

The board still has a public hearing set for Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. That hearing will take up College Church's revised request to build a 53-space parking lot at the northeast corner of Seminary Avenue and Scott Street, according to Patch. The church originally proposed 70 spaces but scaled the plan back after a late-June hearing drew opposition from Union Corridor neighborhood residents who argued the rezoning would hurt property values.

The site is zoned R4 residential. College Church is asking the city to rezone it to I-1 (institutional), grant a special-use permit, and approve a variation reducing pavement setbacks from 15 feet to five feet. Buildings on the site, including a single-family home and multi-unit structures, were demolished in spring 2026 to make way for the lot. At least five of the 53 proposed spaces would be designated for ADA use.

A separate case, Roosevelt Commons LLC's special-use permit application for townhouses on Roosevelt Road, was last heard at the board's Tuesday, July 28 meeting. That application could also return at the Sept. 9 session if it is not resolved Aug. 11.

The board canceled its second July planning session, citing a lack of business. The September rescheduling marks the second calendar change for the board since late June.

The Sept. 9 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. No agenda for the rescheduled meeting has been posted yet. Residents can sign up for agenda notifications through the city's Notify Me service on wheaton.il.us.
