Two Wheaton events honor veterans in the days before Veterans Day: a free panel featuring women veterans Thursday evening and an outdoor beer tasting Saturday that raises money for homeless veterans.
The DuPage County Historical Museum hosts a Veterans Panel: Women's Experiences at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. Six decorated women veterans will discuss their stories and experiences, according to Shaw Local. The program is free.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, Cantigny Park holds its Brew It Forward event in Tank Park. The outdoor beer tasting runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and benefits the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV), based in Wheaton at 433 S. Carlton Ave.
Beer tokens cost $10 for five or $20 for 12, with each token good for a 3-ounce pour. Parking is $16 per car. Veterans who attend receive complimentary tastings, and guests can also buy tokens for veterans or donate directly to the shelter, according to Cantigny's event page.
Family activities and concessions will be available in Tank Park.
Brew It Forward was first held in 2017. Among the breweries scheduled to pour are Half Acre, Revolution, Lagunitas, New Belgium and Tighthead.
MSHV provides housing and services to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. Vietnam War veteran Bob Adams and Gulf War veteran Dirk Enger founded the nonprofit in 2007, according to the organization's website.
