Several downtown Wheaton streets will shut down starting Friday night for the Wheaton Concours Car Show, a free-admission event at Memorial Park that puts a field capped at 150 curated vehicles on display along the Hale Street corridor Saturday, Aug. 22.
Road closures begin at 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, and last through the show's conclusion Saturday afternoon, according to a Wheaton Police Department notice. The show runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave.
Streets confirmed closed include:
- Karlskoga Avenue between Wheaton Avenue and Hale Street
- Hale Street between Union Avenue and Wesley Street
- Seminary Avenue between Hale Street and Main Street
The city published an interactive closure map on Tuesday, Aug. 18, which may show additional affected streets beyond those confirmed in the police notice and the city's social media posts. Shoppers and diners heading to Front and Hale streets Saturday morning should check the map for detour routes, as the event footprint borders businesses along Hale Street.
The show is presented by The Hamilton Collection and benefits Special Olympics Illinois. The Wheaton Police Department is participating. Local Special Olympics athletes will vote on and present a trophy on the field, with proceeds going to Special Olympics Illinois programs, the city said in an Aug. 15 Facebook post.
Spectator admission is free.
Food vendors will be on site, and a DJ will provide entertainment. Featured car classes include Supercars, Classics and American Muscle, with marques like Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Aston Martin expected on display.
Car registration pre-sale closed Aug. 16 at $20 per vehicle; day-of entry costs $30. Each registered car gets a reserved spot on a closed city street, and a selection committee reviews every entry to keep the field hand-picked.
