Wheaton-area children can pick up a paintbrush and help create a commemorative mural celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary at the DuPage County Fair on Friday, July 24.
The hands-on activity runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton. DuPage County announced the event as part of its America 250 programming, and it is open to children who want to participate. No registration has been announced.
The 72nd annual DuPage County Fair
The mural painting falls on day two of the 72nd annual DuPage County Fair, which runs Thursday, July 23, through Sunday, July 26. Friday hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Admission costs $12 for adults ages 13 and up, $8 for seniors 62 and older, and $8 for children ages 6 to 12. Kids 5 and under get in free, as do active military members with ID. A Mega Pass covering admission and rides is $35.
The fairgrounds sit northeast of Roosevelt Road and County Farm Road, east of the DuPage County Complex. Visitors enter through the complex at County Farm Road, and free shuttle buses run from all parking lots to the main gates.
Beyond the mural, the fair features a carnival, 4-H Family Fun Fair, watermelon and pie eating contests, Axe Women Loggers, food trucks, a talent contest with cash prizes, Big Run Wolf Ranch, and livestock shows. The fair has called the Wheaton site home since 1955, according to Discover DuPage.
Friday, July 24, is also Downtown Wheaton Day, giving families a reason to spend the whole day in town.
Details on the mural event are available at dupagecounty.gov.
