Thursday, Aug. 20, brings three community events to Wheaton in a single day: a networking luncheon, a caregiver support group and a free evening lecture on C.S. Lewis, all within miles of each other.

The Wheaton Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly Multi-Chamber Progressive Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Abbington Banquets, 3S002 IL Route 53 in Glen Ellyn, according to Patch. The event brings together business owners from several area chambers for networking over lunch.

At noon, Jennifer Navarro, a licensed clinical social worker and memory program director at Belmont Village Geneva Road, leads a free Caregiver Support Group at the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St. The group meets the third Thursday of every month and is open to anyone caring for a loved one. Navarro can be reached at 630-510-2522.

That evening, the Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College hosts Rev. Dr. Joel D. Heck for a free public lecture at 7 p.m. titled "Bookending C.S. Lewis: On F.P. Wilson, his Oxford Tutor, and J.A.W. Bennett, his Cambridge Successor." The Wade Center sits at 351 E. Lincoln Ave., at the northwest corner of campus near Washington Street and Lincoln Avenue. Parking is on the east side of Washington.

The Wheaton Park District and Wheaton College's Arena Theater co-present Shakespeare in the Park: "Romeo and Juliet" on three consecutive evenings, Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 27-29, at Arena Theater. The park opens at 5:30 p.m. each night, a puppet show starts at 6:45 p.m. and the main performance begins at 7 p.m.

All three performances are free.

Looking further ahead, the Great American Dog Show is scheduled to return to Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Sept. 5-7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Presented by the International Kennel Club of Chicago, the show features professional trainers and dog owners competing across 200 breeds for Best in Show, plus family-friendly demonstrations and kids' activities. Tickets and parking must be purchased in advance at greatamericandogshow.com.
