Warrenville's volunteer commission on inclusion and equity lined up a busy agenda for its Tuesday, July 21 meeting, with items ranging from a fall community resource fair to a program that could help residents with disabilities during police encounters.
The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness Commission (IDEC) convened at 7 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 28W701 Stafford Place. According to the posted agenda, the seven-member advisory body listed nine items of business. Meeting minutes had not been published as of Tuesday, July 22, so specific outcomes are not yet confirmed.
Resource fair and National Night Out
The agenda's marquee item: planning for a Community Resource Fair set for Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Warrenville Public Library. The fair will feature information tables, a touch-a-truck display, and a visit from the children's character Bluey. The commission is seeking volunteers for its table.
The IDEC also planned to discuss its role at National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 5 to 9 p.m., where it will share a table with the Environmental Advisory Commission. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts.
Blue Envelope Program
The agenda listed discussion of the Blue Envelope Program, a tool used in some communities to help people with autism or communication disabilities interact with police during traffic stops. The commission was scheduled to research how other communities manage the program, its costs, and to prepare a recommendation for the police chief.
Warrenville already carries an "Autism Friendly City" designation, featured on the city's official website.
Warrenville Smiles update
The commission's "Warrenville Smiles" initiative, launched in November 2025, is rotating its Spotlight Station from Recycled Cycling to Fresh Market. The city described the stations in a November 2025 announcement as engagement pop-ups hosted by local organizations featuring giveaway items, photo opportunities, and ways to spread positive connections.
Who's on the commission
Chairperson Megan Legler, who also serves as the Warrenville Park District's special events and sponsorship coordinator, leads the IDEC. Alderman Bill Weidner serves as council liaison, and ex-officio members represent the Warrenville Public Library, Fire Protection District, Park District, Community Unit School District 200, and a Wheaton Warrenville South High School student.
A change to city code now allows any high school junior or senior living within Warrenville's corporate limits to serve as the student representative, regardless of where they attend school.
