Wheaton residents can mark their calendars for a free block party featuring live music, carnival games and food at Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The City of Wheaton's Community Relations Commission is organizing the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park, 225 Karlskoga Ave., next to downtown Wheaton.
The commission described the block party as a community-wide celebration aimed at connecting residents with local businesses, public services and organizations, according to the city's event page. The event will also highlight Wheaton's history and future.
The commission's Aug. 5 meeting agenda listed "Wheaton Block Party planning" under old business, confirming the event has been in the works since at least early August. First Trust Portfolios LP and Amplify ETFs are sponsoring the event, according to the city's event page.
Some vendors will only accept cash.
The Wheaton Park District's summer programming page also confirmed the Sept. 26 date and location, noting Memorial Park is the district's special event hub for the season.
