Wheaton's Community Relations Commission meets Wednesday, Sept. 2, to discuss Block Party plans and begin organizing its annual volunteer day.

The 7 p.m. meeting takes place in the Gamon Room at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. The meeting is open to the public and includes a comment period.

Block Party set for Sept. 26

The commission is hosting a free Block Party on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave. The city announced the event in a news flash posted Aug. 28.

The event is free.

Activities include carnival games, live music, face painting, balloon art, children's train rides and a petting zoo. Residents can meet Wheaton Police officers and other city representatives. Food and treats will be available for purchase.

The commission hosted a similar Block Party at Memorial Park in 2025, according to a city newsletter. The Sept. 2 meeting will cover planning details for this year's edition, which is listed under old business on the posted agenda.

Wheaton Gives Back returns in October

Under new business, commissioners will begin organizing Wheaton Gives Back, the city's annual day of community service. The event falls on the fourth Saturday of October each year, according to the city's Wheaton Gives Back page.

The commission also oversees the city's Good Citizens Awards, which recognize students and adults for service to Wheaton, according to a city newsletter from earlier in 2026.

How to attend

The commission, which promotes community involvement and volunteering, has between seven and 13 members. Residents who want to speak can do so during the public comment portion of the Sept. 2 meeting.
