The pizza-focused restaurant at 111 E. Front St. in downtown Wheaton has a new name and a bigger menu.
Dough and the Backyard has rebranded its main dining room as Front Street Kitchen, shifting from a pizza-centric concept to modern American fare with entrees ranging from red wine-braised short rib ($36) to spaghetti puttanesca with shrimp ($26) and honey herb crusted salmon ($29). The change is already in effect.
The owners wrote on the restaurant's website that customer behavior drove the pivot. As the space grew, they said, guests showed them how they wanted to use it, and the team saw a chance to build something more flexible and lasting for downtown Wheaton.
Pizza isn't gone.
The menu still lists hand-tossed and Detroit-style pies, including margherita, prosciutto and goat cheese, and lemon capri, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available.
The broader menu adds starters like grilled cauliflower ($15) and crab-stuffed peppadews ($18), salads including a chimichurri quinoa bowl ($16) and burrata caprese ($18), and handhelds such as a buffalo shrimp po' boy ($17) and double smash burger ($18). A cocktail list features house originals like the Front Street Fashioned, made with Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon, demerara syrup and cardamom and black walnut bitters.
The Backyard, the entertainment and event space occupying the back of the 8,674-square-foot building, remains unchanged. It continues to host live music, trivia nights, watch parties and private events under its own brand.
The restaurant is operated by Dough LLC, managed by Eric Schlickman, who also owns 302 Wheaton. Schlickman secured a Class A liquor license from the Wheaton City Council on Jan. 21, 2025, for the original Dough concept at the same address, according to city liquor commission records. The building previously housed Carlson's Art Supply Store.
Patch reported the rebrand on Sunday, Aug. 9. The restaurant describes itself as a modern American tavern serving weekday lunches, dinners with friends and date nights, with seating for 302 across both spaces.
Front Street Kitchen is open at 111 E. Front St. Reservations and the full menu are available at frontstreetkitchen.com or by calling (331) 806-3958.
