Democrat Yeena Yoo has ousted Gwen Henry as DuPage County treasurer, ending a 20-year run for the Wheaton Republican who once served as the city's mayor.

Yoo led Henry 192,105 to 134,134 in unofficial results with about 99% of Election Day ballots counted as of 10:35 p.m. on Nov. 3, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Associated Press projected Yoo as the winner, according to NCTV17.

The results are unofficial. The official vote count will not be certified until later this month, with county canvassing due by Nov. 24, according to NCTV17.

Henry, a certified public accountant, was first elected DuPage County treasurer in 2006. She served as Wheaton's mayor from 1990 to 1992, according to the Wheaton Public Library's list of mayors. She also served as a Wheaton council member, a DuPage County Board member and a forest preserve district commissioner, according to the Tribune.

Her county biography credits her with helping develop the Wyndemere Senior Living Campus in Wheaton during her time as mayor.

Yoo, a litigation attorney from Elmhurst, has served on the DuPage County Board since 2022, according to the Tribune. She gave up her District 2 board seat to run for treasurer.

The treasurer's office handles property tax collection and investment of county funds. During her campaign, Yoo said she would expand outreach to help residents learn about property tax exemptions and would work to fix technical problems with the office's new tax software system, according to her Ballotpedia profile.

Henry's loss was part of a broader Democratic sweep across DuPage County. Democrats flipped the treasurer's office, elected a sheriff, held the clerk's office and expanded their County Board majority from 12-6 to 17-1, Shaw Local reported. As we reported Nov. 5, Wheaton's own Cindy Bray-Parker won a county board seat in that wave.

No public statements from Henry or Yoo in response to the results appeared in available records as of publication.
