Wheaton North alto saxophonist Michael Shebar, selected for Carnegie Hall's national youth jazz program earlier this year, takes the stage Thursday, Aug. 20, at Adelle's Modern Kitchen + Bar in downtown Wheaton for a free evening of live jazz.

Shebar leads the Michael Shebar Duo at the weekly WDCB Jazz Thursdays series. Three sets run from 6 to 9 p.m. at 535 W. Liberty Dr. No cover charge.

A member of the Youth Jazz Ensemble of DuPage, Shebar earned a spot in Carnegie Hall's NYO Jazz 2026 program after a competitive national audition, making him one of only two Illinois musicians chosen for the ensemble. He also received an Honorable Mention for Alto Saxophone at the 2025 Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington competition, performing with the Youth Jazz Ensemble of DuPage, according to Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Michael Shebar Duo previously performed at the 2024 St. Charles Jazz Weekend.

WDCB Jazz Thursdays is presented by WDCB Public Radio (90.9 FM), the College of DuPage station in Glen Ellyn, and sponsored by PJ's Camera & Photo Supply. Chicago guitarist Neal Alger and Steve Yastrow played the Aug. 13 installment. The series wraps its August run with the Megan Curran Duo on Thursday, Aug. 27, same time and place.
