Warrenville's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness Commission will tackle a packed agenda Tuesday, Aug. 18, including final planning for a September community resource fair and a significant update on the Blue Envelope Program's move to state management.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 28W701 Stafford Place. The agenda was posted Aug. 13 on the city's website.
Resource fair takes shape
The commission's fall event, a Community Resource Fair, is set for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Warrenville Public Library. The fair will feature information tables from local organizations, a touch-a-truck display and a visit from the children's character Bluey. Commissioners are seeking volunteers for the IDEC table.
The Sept. 12 fair coincides with the Warrenville Mercantile Grand Opening Weekend, which runs Sept. 10 through 13, according to a City of Warrenville Facebook post. Warrenville Smiles, the commission's outreach initiative launched in November 2025, plans "Spotlight Stations" at a history museum opening tied to the Mercantile project, the Fresh Market and a local dental office.
Blue Envelope Program goes statewide
The commission will hear an update on the Blue Envelope Program, a voluntary tool that helps law enforcement and drivers with autism communicate during traffic stops. Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced July 21 that his office will manage a statewide version launching Jan. 1, 2027, with free envelopes available at DMV facilities and participating law enforcement agencies, WTTW reported.
Warrenville, which holds an "Autism Friendly City" designation, had been researching a local version of the program. The agenda does not indicate whether the statewide rollout will replace or supplement that local effort.
Student seat, National Night Out debrief
Commissioners will discuss a vacancy for a student representative. City code was amended to allow any high school junior or senior living within Warrenville's corporate limits to serve, regardless of which school they attend.
The agenda also includes feedback from the commission's shared table with the Environmental Advisory Commission at National Night Out on Aug. 4, plus approval of minutes from the June 16 and July 21 meetings.

Chairperson Megan Legler, who also serves as the Warrenville Park District's special events and sponsorship coordinator, leads the seven-member commission.
