Wheaton residents won't get a City Council Planning Session in July. The city canceled the Monday, July 27 session, the second consecutive planning session scrapped this month after the Monday, July 13 meeting was also called off.

City Clerk Andrea Rosedale signed the cancellation notice, posted to the city's Agenda Center on Tuesday, July 21 at 11:30 a.m. The stated reason: "lack of business."

The same explanation accompanied the July 13 cancellation, posted Friday, July 10.

Planning sessions are the council's informal work sessions, held Monday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. Council members and staff use them to hash out policy topics, review capital projects, and hear presentations before items move to a formal vote at a regular council meeting.

Earlier in 2026, sessions covered stormwater programming and funding, the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton boundary agreement, proposed e-bicycle regulations, budget fund balance reserves, and the 2026–2030 Capital Improvement Plan. The council held seven sessions between Monday, January 26 and Monday, June 22 on a roughly biweekly schedule before both July dates were scrapped.

The back-to-back cancellations mean the council has gone more than a month without an informal work session. Regular City Council meetings, where formal votes take place, are unaffected. The council met most recently on Monday, July 20.

The cancellation notice was issued by the City Manager's Office and lists Mayor Philip J. Suess and City Manager Michael Dzugan. No additional comment beyond the notice has been provided by city officials.
