Wheaton seniors and their families will get a say Thursday when the Commission on Aging votes on proposed income limits and monthly stipend amounts for the city's Senior Assistance Program in 2027.

The commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in the Gamon Room at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. It is the panel's first meeting since January; the commission does not convene between February and July.

Nine new business items fill the agenda, headlined by a Senior Services Gap Analysis and votes on the proposed calendar year 2027 income cap, monthly stipend amounts and overall budget. The current income cap stood at $33,950 in annual household income as of August 2025. The specific dollar figures proposed for 2027 have not been published.

No figures have been released.

The commission will also review and approve new interview questions for homeowners and renters applying to the program, updated informational handouts, and a refreshed Resource Binder. A separate agenda item addresses marketing and public awareness for the Senior Assistance Program.

Under old business, commissioners will review a mid-year summary of how the CY2026 program is performing.

The agenda also lists planning for a Senior Awards event on Monday, Oct. 5.

How to participate

Residents who want to address the commission must state their name and address before speaking. Comments are limited to five minutes, and each person may speak only once, according to the city's agenda posting.

The Senior Assistance Program, administered by the commission since 1972, provides monthly financial help to Wheaton residents 65 and older who meet income requirements. Residents with questions can contact city staff member Michelle Mayer at 630-260-2019 or [email protected].
